Copa and Cogeca launch first-ever petition amid growing uncertainty over CAP budget

The European Commission is preparing the 2028–2034 budget, which could see reduced agricultural funding, a Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) that risks losing its truly "common" character, and yet another policy debate taking place without clarity on the available resources. Worryingly, all of this is set to be presented in mid-summer, in July — right in the middle of the harvest season! This is simply unacceptable. That’s why we are calling on organisations at all levels — local, national, and European — to mobilise around the four key demands outlined in Copa-Cogeca's petition. 👉 https://nosecuritywithoutcap.eu/

Our Vision – We Farm 4 EU

The coming decade is pivotal for EU agriculture. Many challenges lie ahead. We will face difficult debates on generation renewal, low farm income, market volatility and climate change. As European farmers and cooperatives, we are aware of and ready to navigate these difficult issues and to weather the changes in store. We seek to deliver the type of agriculture that our citizens expect and demand: agriculture that provides a high level of food security and high standards of quality, welfare, sustainability and environmental protection. This is our commitment to Europe! In return, we look to Europe’s leaders to deliver the policy framework that will feed our future.

Copa and Cogeca launch first-ever petition amid growing uncertainty over CAP budget

The Presidents of Copa and Cogeca today announced in Brussels the launch of a petition titled nosecuritywithoutcap.eu. The goal is to raise awareness and mobilising the entire European farming community against the idea of a ’single fund’ in which the CAP could be diluted after 2027. According to Copa and Cogeca, the approach being pursued by the European Commission contradicts both history and its own messages about the strategic importance of agriculture. European security begins with food security.

Copa and Cogeca urge action amid surge in fraudulent imports of waste and residues for biofuels

Contrary to its original purpose, the energy content multiplier — or double counting — applied under the Renewable Energy Directive (RED) transport targets is increasingly being misused, turning into an entry point for a wave of fraudulent feedstock imports, ranging from used cooking oil, palm oil effluents and advanced ethanol. Ahead of the Transport and Energy Council on 16 June, Copa and Cogeca have sent a formal letter to the President of the Council and the European Commissioner for Energy, outlining key demands to address the issue and restore confidence in certification schemes and market integrity.

Press Conference - Invitation

A 45-minute press conference conducted in English by Copa and Cogeca Presidents Massimiliano Giansanti and Lennart Nilsson, with the participation of Secretary-General Elli Tsiforou. This press conference will address the key agricultural issues set to shape the EU agenda this summer in Brussels, starting with the presentation of the future EU budget and proposals for the post-2027 Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). It will also cover the increasing number of trade-related challenges driven by global geopolitical tensions, which could have serious implications for the agricultural sector and potentially spark renewed unrest among EU farming communities. Following initial mobilisations on MFF and CAP matters in May, Copa and Cogeca will use this opportunity to announce their next actions, as the European Commission has yet to provide the clarity and concrete reassurances expected on these critical issues.

One out of every two imported honeys in Europe is fraudulent but it doesn't have to be that way!

This is why Copa-Cogeca would propose one new goal to the Commission: reducing counterfeiting in half by 2027 compared to figures in the analysis carried out in March 2023 with a view to having no adulterated honey present in the European market at all by 2030!
